Copper Soul - Solo Clarinet (PDF)

Copper Soul was commissioned by Amanda Forest. Copper Soul is a work that is simultaneously playful, but also showcases elements of tension and anxiety. Copper Soul houses a great deal of tonal material, but utilizes chromaticism to avoid being stuck within a particular key. The tonal sections also act as aural anchors for the listeners. Nothing really returns in its original form though. Rhythm, octave and tempo are all subject to change. Being able to freely return to any of these musical fragments, even when the mood of the music seems to have fully switched, gives the previous material a whole new identity. What started out as lighthearted, now seems to carry that much more weight and maturity.
